There are thousands of classes on line that teach skills. If you are currently unable to work, make time to develop a skill that has always been of interest to you. Take up woodworking, painting, drawing, photography or writing. Learn to play an instrument or improve your skill in an instrument you already have. Take notice of the things that are beautiful to you and find a way to make it into something more. For instance, if you love a specific photograph that hangs in your home try to put it on canvas. It may not be perfect, but it will take up some of your time and may bring you unexpected joy.
2. Tease your Brain: Try out a puzzle, learn a new board or card game. Do things away from the screen.  For instance, if you enjoy figuring things out, learn how to change the oil in your car, or repair a mechanical issue. Start a blog or a YouTube channel on something you are passionate about.  There are so many resources you can use to exercise your brain while away from work or spending time at home.
3. Many people find joy in music: Music makes people happy. Throw on some headphones or blast the radio while you are sitting around, running, dancing or even doing a chores. Music will instantly lift your mood. There are many opportunities to have a “private” concert with a favorite artist as people are taking to Instagram and Twitter to share their talents. Take advantage of this. Try a different genre of music that takes you on a journey, Spanish or French music,for instance, can transport you to another place.  There are even orchestral performances that have free concerts throughout the next few months. There is no better time to be able to see these beautiful works of art than from your home office.
4. Podcasts: There are thousands of podcasts out there. You could probably get through a few of them from start to finish with this quarantine. Pick a few favorites to listen to when nothing else seems to be working. One of my favorites is My Favorite Murder. A comedy murder podcast.  It takes a little getting used to, but if its your cup of tea, it will entertain for hours. You could also take up audio books. They are a great way to listen to your favorite books while working around the house, in the care or even as you are falling asleep. Your local library has an app that you can download and get audio books for free, or you can use one of the many services available with a subscription.
5. Get Your Virtual Tour On: There have been posts popping up all over the place with museums, farms, and even the Sistine Chapel offering free virtual tours.  This a perfect way to exercise your mind and keep your spirits up by focusing on the beauty that exists in this world.
6. Be Grateful: I know its hard to do when we are all worried about our health, our jobs, the economy and the world in general. But take a minute to start a gratitude journal. Try to write down one thing a day. You may be surprised at everything you have to be grateful for.

1. Organize/Clean: Its about the time for spring cleaning. Take this extra “mandated” time at home to get rid of things that don’t bring you joy as Marie Kondo would suggest. Old paperwork, photos, books, etc. Create something with them or remove them from your life. When you take time to de-clutter your home, your mind will often take the journey as well and you are better able to focus on work, friends, family or whatever else matters most to you.
2. Make-up Tutorials: Again, there are thousands of make-up tutorials to occupy your time. You can go from frumpy work from home (like me) to glam in a matter of minutes. Give it a shot. You may just impress someone. Plus, despite how it feels, this won’t last forever, you will eventually get back to real life, and work.
3. Lose that weight you have been stressing about using exercise. No joke. You don’t get to see your crush for a month. Make that month matter. Exercise at home with these at home exercise videos for beginners or get more intense with videos for a more intermediate level. You can even try dancing. Get outside for a hike or run. There are so many options outside of the gym.
4. Make food at home and learn what you can about what is most nutritious for your body. While everyone has the same general guidelines, make decisions that work for you and your body. Even if you don’t think you have a green thumb, do some research and you may find a method that works for you. Create an indoor garden if you are renting or don’t have the space for a real outdoor garden.

Strobing is trending on all of your social media and yes women’s faces have started to catch light more than they used to. So, is strobing just another word for highlighting? Yes. It’s highlighting with a flare (literally) but it is different than your typical highlighting in many ways. The industry has taken highlighting to a whole new level with strobing which is going to enhance light reflection and keep those cheek bones poppin’.

“The goal of strobing is to create radiant, flawless, youthful looking skin,” says lead makeup director Carina Hernandez of international beauty service company, Event Makeup in San Diego. Hernandez advises scheduling more time to do your makeup if you plan on strobing, “it is a longer process because you’re building the products and it also takes more advanced techniques.” 

Thankfully we have our very own expert to tell us how strobing is done to get that dewy, youthful glow!

1. Start with clear skin, “It’s important to fully exfoliate your skin so that you’re face looks flawless and so your makeup doesn’t look patchy or flaky. I like to use Dermadoctor Physical Chemistry Facial Microdermabrasion + Multiacid Chemical Peel. You don’t want your products to catch on your skin and highlight the wrong things,” explains Hernandez.
2. Hernandez suggests using Dermadoctor Photodynamic Therapy 3-in-1 Facial Lotion with Broad Spectrum SPF 30.
3. “Apply a luminous primer like Becca Backlight Priming Filter $38,” suggests Hernandez.
4. Hernandez says to then work the areas you’re strobing with a crème like MAC Strobe Cream $33.
5. “Then set it with an illuminating powder like Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Poured in opal $38 or Laura Geller Baked Gelato Swirl Illuminator in Gilded Honey (effervescent caramel honey) $26 or Too Faced Candlelight Glow Duo $30, those are my personal favorites,” says Hernandez.

Hernandez then gave us some tips that will help with the process. “If using other liquid products,” she suggests, “start with foundation, concealer, strobe cream (in the areas you want to highlight), apply the setting powder, a crème over the same areas and then finally using highlighting powders for the best effect. Using a beauty blender is the best way to blend without over blending; I use fingers to tap in the creams and the MAC blush brush 116 for any powders.”

Protect your face from getting dry skin this season, protect from the cold harsh elements. Basically, this year, keep your skin from becoming a dried up, parched, raisin face!

DRINK UP FOR DRY SKIN! 

I am going to start with the number one tip that you already know to do. You’ve heard it time and time again but drink a lot of water. Staying hydrated will do far more wonders for your face then any cream or technique that’s popular at the moment. Just like the rest of your body, your skin needs water, it’s an organ made up of cells which are made of water. Without water your skin will turn on you. It will become very tight and dry. When your skin becomes tight and dry it can form wrinkles so much easier. Wrinkles and dry skin is the enemy and the #1 antidote is right there at your fingertips…water! Now there is some debate on how much water you should drink, the old standard was always 8 glasses a day but that actually falls short from today’s standards according to IOM, the Institute of Medicine. An average of 11 cups per day for women and 15 cups for men is now considered the healthy mark. Unfortunately, the water you consume caters to all your other organs first so you really need to get that full amount so that it will fully hydrate you so that your skin gets the maximum benefit.

So how can you manage to keep track of all that water you are drinking? Well instead of tracking every drip just make sure to drink water with every meal and a few in between and this should keep you close. The best rule of thumb is to stay hydrated enough to not have to feel thirsty at some point during the day. Once your body is thirsty, it’s telling you that you left it dry a bit too long and that it’s not hydrated enough and needs water pronto.

HOT H20 is a NO NO for dry skin.

This one is one that I am personally guilty of doing. I like ridiculously hot showers. Ridiculously hot. Especially, when the weather is cold. The hot water warms up my body and even if I step out into an air conditioned area I still feel so warm but… it’s not helping me keep that dewy skin look that I love so much. Too much hot water helps evaporate your skin’s natural hydration! While I never wash my face with hot water I’m not doing any favors to the rest of my body by steaming out my own natural hydration. There are products that can help though (if you’re like me and will probably not stop turning the dial to hot, hot, hot). For your face, there are plenty of micellar gentle liquid cleansers that don’t even require you to rinse! However, if you are like me and you cake and bake your makeup, that just won’t cut it. First its makeup removers, cleansers, easy massaging and major moisturizing. For the rest of your body wash with a cleansing oil that has soybean oil which helps fortify and protect your skin’s own moisture barrier. Make sure you are also massaging your facial moisturizer on to your face as opposed to rubbing it. Massaging your skin care on to your skin helps to reach deep into the rough patches of your dry skin. No more raisin face! :p

Choose Your Makeup Wisely When It Comes To Dry Skin!

Buy hydrating makeup to avoid dry skin. Makeup products can definitely play a part in having dry skin or even making you look like you have dry skin (even if you really don’t). Try creamy makeup that contains hydrators like glycerin or vitamin E. If you don’t know where to start or what products to try, keep reading below!

I got to sit down with the head stylist at Event Makeup in San Diego, Carina Hernandez who gave us some awesome tips on what makeup to try!

“I recommend starting with the “Too Faced Hangover Primer,” it has coconut water, probiotics and electrolytes which is all great for dehydrated, dry patchy skin.”  Following that primer she said to use the “Too Faced Born This Way” foundation.  This foundation gives a natural finish. Another option is the, “It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream, SPF 50+” it will be your one & only all-in-one: spf + moisturizer + full coverage foundation. Dusty rose is that muted pink color, very French, very feminine, and oh-so-chic. Historical and always relevant, it has come and gone through eras of fashion. It has been seen on the runway from late winter to spring shows. The red carpet has embraced it on gowns, shoes, and accessories. Zac Posen created the most celebrated dusty rose dress at the Oscars. It’s even made its way into the salon, dusty rose hair has been all the rage so far this year and could be seen on celebs like Nicole Richie. Pantone even included it in their color report for predicted hues. It’s a hit.

How to wear it? So many dusty rose options are out there. It pairs great with both gold and silver, and always is a sure companion with black. Many silk options in the pink tone can be found, and layered tulle and lace on tanks and skirts have been seen almost everywhere. Dusty rose on top paired with black on the bottom in denim or leather creates a ladylike yet edgy contrast.

Shimmering dusty rose accessories can also be found, a great compliment to many skin tones. Rhinestones, metallic leathers and fabrics and even make-up are a lovely update to the copper and rose gold tones that were abundant last year. Earlier this year the sisters were gearing up for the release of the Kardashian’s Khroma Beauty Line.

Licensing and branding of the products were done by Boldface Group Inc. The line has already launched in the US an is set to launch internationally  in early 2013

Back in June Chroma Makeup Studio issued a public statement saying that the Kardashians’ new beauty line would cause consumer confusion. “Although they didn’t file legal charges, Chroma’s co-owners did threaten to defend their trademarked name, saying that they are “NOT endorsing low budget cosmetic products that will be sold in mass retail outlets,” according to NY Magazine. In October, a LA company called, Chroma Beauty also came at the family with a threat of a lawsuit if they didn’t change their name.  Then…Lee Tillett Inc., an Altamonte Springs, Florida business that owns Kroma Makeup, sent a cease-and-desist letter on June 28 to Boldface Licensing + Branding, holder of the license for the Kardashian makeup line, claiming that Khroma Beauty infringed upon its trademark. Lee Tillett applied to register the mark Kroma in 2010.

However, a representative from Boldface told The Huffington Post a few months back that they too had gone through the necessary steps to secure their name:

“Boldface Licensing + Branding has gone through the appropriate legal channels in obtaining the rights to use the name Khroma Beauty by Kourtney, Kim and Khloé in the Color Category with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, making all proper legal filings.”

Boldface has now, also filed a lawsuit against Lee Tillett Friday in the United States District Court Central District of California Western Division to seek a declaratory judgment that it’s use of the word Khroma doesn’t infringe on Lee Tillett’s use of Kroma. Boldface’s legal complaint states that Lee Tillett’s Kroma “consists solely of a descriptive term and lacks any inherent distinctive meaning to the relevant consuming public and therefore, is conceptually weak,” according to WWD.
