I don’t know about you, but Karl Lagerfeld personally designs my Chanel party attire and well, all of my attire actually (he just doesn’t know it). The moment that those Chanel models hit the runway I adjust my shopping accordingly. Doesn’t everyone? Well, if you are a late bloomer, keep reading for the latest inspiration coming straight from Chanel’s Métiers d’Art Show in Rome. It’s everything that you will need to guide you through every family gathering, every party, and every night out with the girls and it’s all very, je ne sais quoi or insta-worthy, if you will. It reinvents the little black dress.

Three words some up my favorites from the pre-fall collection for Chanel; Crazy, Sexy, Cool. As they say, when in Rome…do as the Romans do. And the Romans are keeping it a bit more coquettish than we are used to seeing. The flirtatious collection showed legs covered in black lace, tops with one shoulder bare, black mini dresses, tops cropped up a bit, and super defined waist lines with black ciré pencil skirts. Some pieces looking like they just came out of your negligee drawer.

Models looked go-go glam with large demi-beehive hair, big doll-eyed makeup, and of course short dresses. The skimpy clothing displayed with fine lingerie type embroidering was paired with large coats that help tame the collection.

Chanel at the Cinecittà film studio No. 5

The incredible show on Tuesday night took place at the Cinecittà film studio No. 5 was staged as the Paris of the past that we all know and love. The set was complete with wine, cheese shops, a corner bakery, oyster bar and the main attraction was at the cinema. The cinema showed a short directed by Lagerfeld himself and it starred a young and flirty Coco.

The fine detailing of the clothing was in line with the fine Paris art we have seen century after century and what a time to celebrate the wonderful history of Paris after such horrific current events.

“I didn’t know when we started the idea of Paris in Rome that it would be the best moment to show a perfect, romantic Paris when Paris today in reality is the opposite of a romantic city,” said Lagerfeld.

“It’s really unbelievable, no?”

Marc Jacobs as the creative director for Louis Vuitton showed why he holds that position at the Paris Louis Vuitton Show Spring Summer Collection 2013.
Be inspired by the bright colors, bare midriffs, and checkered patterns for your spring/summer style!

The collection, the runway, and the store displays will all follow the same pattern with optical illusions of stripes and checkered patterns in yellow, white, green, brown, and red.

“I received a very nice letter from Marc Jacobs – in his letter he didn’t ask about a collaboration, he just said that he’d like to meet me,” explained Buren. “I was quite surprised. We did not meet until August 28 and I thought we had too little time to do anything [for this season]. My only reservation was when I realised the time scale. I thought they might be wanting something for next year! With time so short, I said, ‘This is totally crazy’.”

The bright show was held inside of the centre courtyard in the Louvre and Buren says that he was given total freedom when it came to designing the runway installation. Buren explained that he was told, “Don’t worry – if you get an idea, and we’re sure you will, you can really do everything you want. Then they told me that there was the possibility and intention to use the escalators – that was quite extravagant, to bring escalators into the middle of the courtyard In the Louvre! In such a space it would be spectacular.”

“At our first meeting, they showed me photos of some pieces Marc was working on,” Buren explained. “And I must say I found it very, very beautiful, very strict, very strongly architectural. Almost like something cubist, in a way.”

Daniel Buren only had two weeks to put a runway vision together and he did, all for a fantastic six minute fashion show! The garments that Marc Jacobs designed flowed completely into the atmosphere that Buren created. The clothes were not only inspired by Buren’s art but also by the classic Damier canvas pattern of Louis Vuitton. This pattern was blown up and colored yellow for the runway, a pattern that would be easily found in the 60’s. The 1960’s fashion scene clearly had some influence here as you can see with the model’s hair in a large bump and skinny headband adorned with a small bow. Even the shape of Enveloppe bags for this collection screamed 60’s with the pointed toe heels, wedges, and flats giving edge to the look.

This season is all about cropped tops, cropped jackets, full-length skirts, extremely short skits, unfitted dresses that are also incredibly short, florals, bright colors, checkers and stripes and envelope bags. Think sexy flight attendant meets Jackie O.

This 2013 collection made by designer, Niki Dimitras is something special. Niki Dimitras is known for her one-of-a-kind boots that are accessorized with belts and fabrics and clothes that are wild and crazy… just like her. This collection showcased  lace dresses with knee length fringe that sparkle, intricately crafted sequined tops and dresses,  jean jackets accessorized with faux fur and jewels, printed hot pants, jumpsuits and other glamorously crazed garments.

Niki made her first garment in 1999 while working at the Wasteland in Los Angeles. Soon stylists and customers alike commissioned her pieces and in 2000, she and good friend Kime Buzzelli opened the Show Pony in Echo Park, where she lives and designs today.

I can’t help but show my favorite pieces from her current collections because they are so amazing! So fall down the rabbit hole and come out on the other side where the Luxury Jones fashion lives. Every time I look through her gallery of clothes I feel inspired to go do something artistic.

AGAIN showed at the Carondelet House venue in MacArthur Park. This two day event was put on by the LA Fashion Council to preview up-and-coming designers’ 2013 collections.

Again, the AGAIN  designer, Amber Kekich-Purling showed a colorful fun line with her 2013 collection. She said that she was inspired by the documentary film ‘Grey Gardens’.

“I took the fabric and created a mood around the darkness in [Grey Gardens] and the weirdness. That’s where the neons come from. It’s pretty simple and wearable but a little edgy at the same time,” explained Kekich-Purling.

Kekich-Purling said, “[My muse] has a bunch of different things that she wants to wear. She can go out in a classic jacket or she can run in the field with a flowy dress and cropped top.”

Her collection was very feminine and fun. It made for a great show and great photographs. However, I personally wouldn’t leave the house in most of those outfits but I definitely would buy many of her pieces separately. The shoes in the show also made a huge splash and received a lot of attention. Large platform shoes from an LA label, UNIF. Together this line screams Rhianna and Lady Gaga!

Again was founded just last fall and has been very successful almost immediately because of their daring creativity. I have to admit I am excited to see their next show!

Kittinhawk did not choose the traditional, walk-the-runway kind of show. Instead they performed a theatrical show. Unfortunately, the show did not receive good reviews. During the odd performance one of the dresses slipped off the one of the model’s chest but not revealing anything we hadn’t already seen, given all the tops were see through. Most people thought that the show was confusing and unnecessary but their clothes did get good reviews. They presented very unique dresses with lots of cut-outs and mixed up the lengths on some of their dresses. The white ensemble could have done without the fluffy neck less and head wear though.

Jen Awad showed at the Carondelet House venue in MacArthur Park. This two day event was put on by the LA Fashion Council to preview up-and-coming designers’ 2013 collections.

Designer Bio:

Jen Awad, a Los Angeles native from Peruvian and Egyptian descent, emerges in the fashion world with a new flavor of eclectic pieces, hoping to enter the fashion scene with exotic designs to denote her heritage. With a diverse background which she attributes to a melting-pot of cultural diversions, Awad adapted her experiences from around the world… and Los Angeles… reflecting a multi-cultural interpretation in her designs.

With an early passion for design, Awad attended FIDM upon graduating from high school in 2005, earning an Associates Degree in Fashion Design from FIDM in June of 2008.

Fashion design was a natural progression and something Awad pursued from an early age. Always sketching new collections for every season, she never questioned that desiging was in her cards. A flair for clashing embellishments, beading and embroidery with mod tattoos, collage art and anything that clutters a silhouette would become her niche. Classic glamour and edgy elegance collide to make perfect sense from a distance.

A self-taught painter, artist and musician, she always knew something in the field of creative arts would be her career path. An accomplished musician in piano, guitar, bass, singing and songwriting, Awad still finds the time to play in a rock band when not designing. With roots in vintage jazz, flamenco, blues, rock and soul, music became a strong influence on her collections and a further extension of her creative expression.

Her spring 2013 collection blended retro styles from the 1950s with edgy looks such as fringe trims, bows, short dresses, long dresses and lots of lace. An artist in true fashion, showing creativity and making for great fashion and great photos. This type of collection always translates into great on-the-rack fashion!

ISM Mode’s 2013 Collection for the LA Fashion Council

 ISM Mode showed on day 1 of a 2 day event at the Carondelet House venue in MacArthur Park. This two day event was put on by the LA Fashion Council to preview up-and-coming designers’ 2013 collections. This particular designer, Inka Sherman will be remembered from this intimate show by her basic cotton knits that draped over the models with very neutral tones of color. She also brought tie-dye back in a few of her skirts and dresses. She explained that all the designs on those pieces are hand dyed and made locally. The fabrics used were soft and light and were see through at times. Her line is certainly a more laid back, comfortable look with a hint of retro style. My favorite part were the dresses that look like a mens large buttoned up shirts- turned dress by the skinny belt at the waistline.

Apparently their fabrics are chosen for comfort, elegance, and for the global good! They use natural fibers and include some organic fabrics. ISM was founded in Berlin, Germany but recently moved to Los Angeles where they produce their entire line (including their knit fabrics) in order to reduce their carbon foot print and strengthen the economy.

Inka Sherman followed her classic style, which is classic and chik for the everyday woman.  Her collection was first shown in 2011 at Concept LA. This year she has created her line to be flattering for many body types, bunching and draping in all the right areas. You can purchase her looks at local L.A. boutiques or online at ISM Mode.

Event Makeup in San Diego, California has teamed up with local clothing designer, Andre Soriano for a photo shoot to release this sneak peak of Andre Soriano’s 2013 collection of gowns that was shown at Fashion Week San Diego. The photograph below was also featured in Fashion 5.0 Magazine! The photo shoot took place at the Lafayette Hotel where local photographer Danny Juare, with his assistant Joseph Baltazar, brilliantly captured the beauty and glamour of Andre’s dresses and really told the story behind the collection in each photo.

Andre Soriano has been known to channel high fashion and high art with influences from cosmopolitan cities worldwide such as New York, Los Angeles, Paris, London, Milan and Tokyo. Andre Soriano only selects the best luxurious fabrics on the market such as satin, velvet, chiffon, cashmere, knits and the crochet with bead-work materials that come from Asia and Europe.
