None other than the Mr. Karl Lagerfeld could dream this collection up. He has clearly one-up’d himself with his latest Chanel 2012-2013 Cruise collection. He personally served as photographer and creative director for this 2013 campaign. At the Château de Versailles’s legendary garden and covered in pastels, models Lindsey Wixson and Joan Smalls displayed the designer’s rich Summer-ready clothing and accessories for the first time which became a fabulous pictorial and fashion show with over sixty models there and four hundred guests. The models processed around a recently restored fountain in the 17th century palace’s gardens in the dreamy attire. The collection looked right at home in those decadent gardens. The clothing to accompany the fantastic accessories seen above was one-piece swimsuits, floral-sleeve frocks, gold-embroidered denim vests, and sheer ruffled skirts with a lot
of poof. These pieces fit the setting for a proper tea party with a hint of edgy fashion.
The Chanel Cruise 2013 collection included enough extravagance and excess that it leaves you reminded of Marie Antoinette. It’s no shocker that the fashion house used the French aristocracy of the 18th century as inspiration. Chanel rained true with a new look with an old feel showing sky-high scarf bonnets, layers of lace, chiffon, and completed looks with strings of pearls. Also included in this collection are collars and blouse fronts, and sleeve hems of ¾ lengths. Signature Chanel wool fabrics were used to make cropped jackets and coats. For the accessories used in the pictorial, Karl Lagerfeld showcased fingerless gloves, oversize sun hats (both seen above) and embroidered bags for a royal twist to the youthful ensembles at the show.
This collection will no doubt inspire many tea parties with crumpets and cakes.
