70’S, 80’S, 90’S OH MY! 2016 FASHION TRENDS ON A TIME MACHINE TRIP LIKE NO OTHER!

Alright my fashion lovers, here it is…2016 fashion trends. 70’s chic and total comfort will do a major takeover. Yes my friends the 70’s are making a comeback in a major way. Rodarte to just name one of many showed beautiful 70’s glam on the runway for this upcoming season. If you thought that the fashion world was just getting over a tiny 70’s kick you were wrong. They were just getting ramped up. From platforms to suede to tousled long flowing hair, the 70’s girl is back.

Don’t love the 70’s vibe, well, have no fears. The fashion world also appears to be all over the dang place with nods to several eras. I’ve seen clothing trends coming from the 1800’s to 70’s, 80’s, and still 90’s (which has been on the scene for a while now). So you can be choosey this upcoming year with what fits you best. Do you rock the 80’s shoulder like nobody’s business? Or love the bra strap-showing look or lace slip dresses as an outfit? Take your pick ladies!

A VERY VICTORIAN NOD MIXED IN THE 2016 FASHION TRENDS!

Taking a note from Alexander McQueen and his SS 2016 collection (and several other designers), fashion is also heading down a pretty and flowy Victorian-inspired theme. Between the ruffles and floral headdresses you may get confused about what time period you’re in but don’t worry, I am here for you. I do have to admit though, the clogs and beautiful florals had me oh so ready for spring 2016! Did I just say clogs? Sure did. Can’t wait to quote Silverstone whenever possible… “What did you do in school today?” “Well, I broke in my purple clogs,” Share says to her father in the movie Clueless. I swear I almost completely speak in movie references, okay…moving on…

BE ONE WITH THE FLAT SAYS 2016 FASHION TRENDS!

So earlier when I mentioned this being a time of comfort, I was referring to your feet! Flats, flats, flats. Comfort is in in a major way so all the top designers well have some sort of “comfort footwear” available to you. Whether it be a flat or a sneaker, enjoy life out of heels here and there!

I LIKE THIS NEXT TREND BC I GET TO MAKE A SPORTS REFERENCE (AND HOW OFTEN DOES A FASHION WRITER GET TO DO THAT? LOL!)

Kinda like Stephen Curry’s ball, the next style’s nothin’ but net. Models from several runways looked like mermaids caught from the sea with an amazing sense of how to work that net they were caught in! From sporty to glam, you’re going to find net errything. – How was that sports reference? Was it as good for you as it was for me? Okay going to stop now! :p

HALT! 2016 FASHION TRENDS COMING YOUR WAY!

Last one I think is worth noting is the halter. It’s the off-shoulder of last season.

I don’t know about you, but Karl Lagerfeld personally designs my Chanel party attire and well, all of my attire actually (he just doesn’t know it). The moment that those Chanel models hit the runway I adjust my shopping accordingly. Doesn’t everyone? Well, if you are a late bloomer, keep reading for the latest inspiration coming straight from Chanel’s Métiers d’Art Show in Rome. It’s everything that you will need to guide you through every family gathering, every party, and every night out with the girls and it’s all very, je ne sais quoi or insta-worthy, if you will. It reinvents the little black dress.

Three words some up my favorites from the pre-fall collection for Chanel; Crazy, Sexy, Cool. As they say, when in Rome…do as the Romans do. And the Romans are keeping it a bit more coquettish than we are used to seeing. The flirtatious collection showed legs covered in black lace, tops with one shoulder bare, black mini dresses, tops cropped up a bit, and super defined waist lines with black ciré pencil skirts. Some pieces looking like they just came out of your negligee drawer.

Models looked go-go glam with large demi-beehive hair, big doll-eyed makeup, and of course short dresses. The skimpy clothing displayed with fine lingerie type embroidering was paired with large coats that help tame the collection.

Chanel at the Cinecittà film studio No. 5

The incredible show on Tuesday night took place at the Cinecittà film studio No. 5 was staged as the Paris of the past that we all know and love. The set was complete with wine, cheese shops, a corner bakery, oyster bar and the main attraction was at the cinema. The cinema showed a short directed by Lagerfeld himself and it starred a young and flirty Coco.

The fine detailing of the clothing was in line with the fine Paris art we have seen century after century and what a time to celebrate the wonderful history of Paris after such horrific current events.

“I didn’t know when we started the idea of Paris in Rome that it would be the best moment to show a perfect, romantic Paris when Paris today in reality is the opposite of a romantic city,” said Lagerfeld.

“It’s really unbelievable, no?”

Find some with rhinestone accents to add some sparkle to your pedicured toes.

3) Breezy Traveling

Have a flight or a long car ride? Keep your look light and layered. A flowy pair of gaucho pants in many prints are a solid pick, and most have elastic waistbands for added comfort when sitting for hours or running to catch a plane. A soft cotton cardigan paired with a tank will keep you covered on chilly flights or when cruising with the windows down. Comfy sneakers complete the look, go for a bright pop of color with a pair of Chucks or ballet flats.
What to add to all of these looks? A pair of sunglasses! No outfit is complete without a killer pair of shades. Round frames have made a comeback, and aviators never go out of style. Grab your goods before they fly off the shelves.

Dusty rose is that muted pink color, very French, very feminine, and oh-so-chic. Historical and always relevant, it has come and gone through eras of fashion. It has been seen on the runway from late winter to spring shows. The red carpet has embraced it on gowns, shoes, and accessories. Zac Posen created the most celebrated dusty rose dress at the Oscars. It’s even made its way into the salon, dusty rose hair has been all the rage so far this year and could be seen on celebs like Nicole Richie. Pantone even included it in their color report for predicted hues. It’s a hit.

How to wear it? So many dusty rose options are out there. It pairs great with both gold and silver, and always is a sure companion with black. Many silk options in the pink tone can be found, and layered tulle and lace on tanks and skirts have been seen almost everywhere. Dusty rose on top paired with black on the bottom in denim or leather creates a ladylike yet edgy contrast.

Shimmering dusty rose accessories can also be found, a great compliment to many skin tones. Rhinestones, metallic leathers and fabrics and even make-up are a lovely update to the copper and rose gold tones that were abundant last year. Try a dusty rose shimmer on lips and eyes, a silvery pink touch that perfectly accents a pout.

Iridescence was a big trend to hit the runway during fashion week.  Now, if a holographic dress or skirt isn’t your thing add a little iridescence to your outfit by adding a clutch instead.

Always timeless and classy, black and White have made a huge comeback.  Marc by Marc Jacobs has designed a must have white cardigan for those chilly Summer nights.  This cutout cardigan features an edgy mesh-like detail with a bold twist.  Pair your cardigan with a black leather mini and some patent leather flats.

Thinking of putting a sweatshirt on to go to the gym?  No, no ladies, luxe sweatshirts are IN this season.  Sweatshirts got a makeover.  Kenzo’s round collar logo sweatshirt with rhinestone detailing would look great paired with a short pleated skirt.

Suits are timeless. This Summer we spice things up a bit.  Coordinate your suit with bold colors like red and royal blue.  Mango’s houndstooth print suit gives you just the edge you need.

An athletic trend was spotted on the runway. Everything from baseball caps to tennis inspired dresses and varsity jackets. Pair them however you like.  I love J. Crew’s colorblock wool baseball cap it’s very versatile.

Last, but not least geometric prints graced the runway.  Everything from grids, triangles, concentric circles and much more.  I love Elizabeth and James Argon jacquard body-con dress, stretch cotton made up with contrasting geometric panels.

Lady Diana Spencer
3,500 people were in attendance at St. Paul’s Cathedral when Lady Diana married Prince Charles in what was called, “The Wedding of the Century”. An estimated 750 million people worldwide watched the 1981 nuptials live on television.  Wearing a silk extravaganza with 10,000 pearls and a 25 foot train designed by Elizabeth and David Emmanuel, Lady Diana’s gown did not disappoint. The picture of her entering the church with the train of her dress flowing down the stairs soon became iconic and forever associated with the story of her life.  The dress cost an approximate $115,000, but because of its place in history – it is now priceless.

Grace Kelly
Before Princess Diana’s “Wedding of the Century”, there was Grace Kelly’s 1956 wedding to Prince Rainier of Monaco which was labeled the same.  Her gown was a gift from MGM, Kelly’s former film studio, and designed by Helen Rose.  It was constructed by three dozen seamstresses over a six week period. The dress is a silk tulle and rose point lace stunner with a veil that is comprised of 90 yards of breathtaking tulle.  This dress is said to be an inspiration for Kate Middleton’s gown when she married Prince William in 2011.

Elizabeth Taylor
Though she married many times, Elizabeth Taylor’s first wedding to hotel magnate  Conrad Nicky Hilton had the most memorable wedding dress and is often cited as an iconic example of a traditional 1950‘s wedding gown.  A gift to the 18 year old bride from MGM studios, the A-line dress had a beautiful off-the-shoulder top with a stunning full silk skirt.

Bianca Porez Morena de Macias
In her 1971 St. Tropez wedding to Mick Jagger, Bianca continued her unique trend setting style with only a white Yves St. Laurent smoking jacket over a long silk skirt.  Topped off with a wide brimmed picture hat and veil, the look blended masculine and feminine pieces into a bold, unconventional statement.

Carolyn Bessette
Simply stunning in a white bias cut silk dress, Carolyn Bessette launched the career of the then-unknown Narciso Rodriguez when she married John F. Kennedy, Jr. in their 1996 secret ceremony on Cumberland Island.  Arresting in it’s simplicity and grace, the dress and the woman who wrote it became an immediate sensation.

Kate Middleton
When Kate married Prince William in 2011, there were 1500 people in attendance at Westminster Abbey, an estimated one million well wishers along the bridal route and an approximate two billion watching the ceremony on television.  The gown for such an momentous occasion was put into the hands of designer Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen and cost a reported $400,000. The dress is long sleeved with a lace applique veil, bodice and skirt. The lace applique was hand made by the Royal School of Needlework at Hampton Court Palace.  The train is 110 inches long and the lace veil was held in place by a Cartier tiara borrowed from the Queen.

If that feels a bit wintery for what may well be your summer wedding, try bright sunshine colours such as sparkling turquoise or lively yellow and you’re sure to be the happiest and most radiant bride in town.

Don’t just think about the colours that you’re going to be surrounded by, remember the other colours on you! This means considering everything from your skin tone to your eye colour to really make everything perfect. You’ve probably got a good grasp on which colours suit you, but if not consider treating yourself to a professional colour analysis.
