Foods considered to be high in saturated fat include beef fat, cream, butter, lard, fried foods and processed baked goods. It’s important to note that not all fats are bad for you. In fact, your body needs a certain amount of the good kind to keep your body running like a well oiled and healthy machine. You should be substituting the saturated fats for healthier sources which contain monounsaturated or polyunsaturated fats instead. The food sources you should be getting your fats from are vegetables, fruit, fish, nuts, beans and legumes. If you are not a fan of these foods though, you can read the food labels to notify yourself of the exact amounts of saturated fats you are eating.
It’s not all about weight loss though. Saturated fat can increase your risk of heart disease, so in the interest of your health, reducing the amount you take in will be better for you in the long run.
